Niagara Falls, Canada mini Gluten–Free Getaway

Niagara Falls is awesome anytime of the year. The power; the forever cloud of mist; the constant roar – you have to see it – feel it – to really appreciate it. The Canadian Celiac Association Annual Conference is being held in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada this year beginning on May 29th through Sunday, May 31, 2009. Since we will be speaking at and attending the conference we thought we would arrange an exciting 4 day, 3 night adventure to begin that Sunday evening. You do not have to attend the Conference to participate in our mini Gluten–free Getaway.
Our hotel overlooks the Horseshoe Falls. We stayed there the last time we arranged a mini Getaway to the Falls in 2003. We’ll visit Niagara–On–The–Lake – a well–preserved 19th Century town that annually hosts the renowned Shaw Festival and a number of famous wineries. There are so many things to see and do – so we’ve left lots of time for you to pick and choose those activities that are of most interest to you. Don’t forget Casino Niagara is available for your gambling pleasure! Here’s the itinerary we’ve planned:
Sunday, May 31: We’ll all meet at the Four–Star Sheraton Fallsview Hotel & Conference Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, which overlooks the Horseshoe Falls. After check–in take the time to settle in; get the lay of the land; or, take a swim in the indoor pool. That evening Chef Whissell, will prepare a "bountiful Buffet" – as he did for our previous Gluten–free Getaway and promises a repeat of the many baked Gluten–free desserts. We’ll have a chance to meet, chat and review the next couple of day’s activities.
Monday, June 1: Present your breakfast voucher at the hotel’s Cut Above Steakhouse and enjoy the extensive breakfast buffet, including gluten–free baked goods. We’ll then meet as a group at the dock for the Maid Of the Mist boat ride experience. The boat enters the Horseshoe Basin and passes directly in front of the falls. A Niagara Falls experience not to be missed. For the rest of the day you are free to see and experience Niagara Falls as you choose.
That evening we’ll gather at Mamma Mia’s Restaurant & Tavern – one of Bob’s favorite old fashioned Italian restaurants. For over 40 years their food “Just Like Mama Used to Make” has pleased lovers of Italian food. They’ve agreed to prepare their abundanzo “Gourmet Italian Dinner” – Gluten–free. Including meatballs and spaghetti, parmigiana, cacciatore, and other specially prepared dishes. After dinner stroll on back to the hotel – enjoying the sights and sounds of the shops, the falls and/or the Casino.
Tuesday, June 2: Breakfast at Falls View Dining Room at your leisure. The morning is yours to do as you wish. Enjoy the hotel facilities: Indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, or exercise room; or, tour a little more, shop, whatever. At 2:00 p.m. we’ll board our luxury coach for an afternoon and evening at Niagara–On–The–Lake. We’ll tour this area and the historic city on the bus. Then stroll around the city, before we head out for a wine tour of the Pellar Estates Winery and later dinner. After dinner, Front and center seating for one of the quality productions of the Shaw Festival. After the theater we’ll be whisked back to our hotel.
Wednesday, June 3: Breakfast at the Falls View Dining Room at your leisure. Then farewell to another of our gluten–free adventures.
